Passable but a big disappointment, July 29, 2005

Having thoroughly enjoyed all of Dreamworks animated releases like Antz, Shark Tale and of course, the Shrek movies, I was very disappointed with Madagascar. There is once again a good cast of top actors including Ben Stiller and David Schwimmer from Friends, but they struggle to contribute to making their characters or the story any funnier or even likeable. The film also moves along at a slow pace, is frequently predictable, and the animation isn't as good as other efforts. On the plus side, the script is smart and the hilarious penguins get an honourable mention. Overall, Madagascar is light entertainment that younger kids will no doubt enjoy, but I still recommend you take the family to see either The Fantastic Four or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this summer, and wait for the DVD for this one. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
